Lennart Kappes' Areas of Expertise

At the intersection of high-performance web development, digital process automation, and AI-powered infrastructure

Well-Thought-Out Web Development & System Architecture

A website is more than just design and functionality—it should be viewed as a holistic system that must be scalable, expandable, maintainable over the long term, and future-proof. The focus is on WordPress systems that, when combined with the right server infrastructure, scale effectively and thus enable consistently fast loading times and high conversion rates.

Process Automation, Interfaces & AI Systems

Lennart is exploring how recurring workflows can be automated in a way that conserves internal resources while simultaneously improving data quality—for example, through custom WordPress plugins that integrate with other systems via Zapier. In addition, there are local AI systems such as privacy-compliant chatbots and RAG solutions that make proprietary knowledge accessible on the company’s own infrastructure without sensitive data ever leaving the premises.

Digital Transformation for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

Digital transformation succeeds when existing processes are first thoroughly understood and then systematically restructured. This is exactly where Lennart’s work comes in: it is not tool-driven, but rather based on the company’s actual needs.

3 Questions for Lennart Kappes

Where is process automation truly worthwhile, and where is it overrated?

Automation is worthwhile wherever processes are clearly defined, occur regularly, and follow a predictable pattern. Classic examples include lead qualification, ticketing, and integrating CRM, marketing tools, and websites. It is overrated when companies try to use tools to solve unclear or politically driven processes. If a workflow within a company isn’t properly documented, automation will ultimately just end up automating the chaos. That’s why every good automation project begins not with tool selection, but with an honest analysis of the existing process.

WordPress is often perceived as slow. What's really causing this, and what can be done to address these common performance issues?

WordPress itself isn't the problem. Most performance issues stem from a combination of low-cost shared hosting, too many plugins, and a lack of technical maintenance. When every feature is implemented using an additional plugin, it quickly adds up to hundreds of extra database queries per page view.

What actually helps:

  1. First, a hosting service that provides access to the server, database, and front end.
  2. Second, a well-maintained plugin stack that uses only what is truly needed.
  3. Third, a solid technical foundation—proper caching, optimized images, and a streamlined database.

WordPress can be very fast if these three points are in order.

Local AI systems and RAG are a hot topic right now. When do they really make sense for a company?

It makes sense wherever there is a wealth of knowledge, but that knowledge is scattered across documents, wikis, or emails and is difficult to find. A RAG system makes exactly this knowledge accessible: Instead of clicking through folder structures, you ask a question and receive an answer with a link to the source. Typical use cases include internal support, onboarding, or searching technical documentation.

Two factors are crucial here. First, the data set: An AI system is only as good as the data it has access to—if the documentation is incomplete, even the best model won’t help. Second, data protection. Especially in small and medium-sized businesses, sensitive data often cannot be shared with external providers. That’s why I rely on local systems that run entirely on our own infrastructure—the knowledge stays in-house, and the company retains control.
